About Us

Hi I’m Stephen Holmes. Floating Axe Productions is my long-term creative name. The Amp Shop is my way of folding my community work into that creative context.

There is a group of young people, mostly teenage boys, who are experiencing trauma and disconnection at the locus of the child protection, criminal justice, mental health and disability systems. The Amp Shop will provide customised therapeutic, forensic and systemic mentoring and consultancy services for young people.

Motivational interviewing has a strong evidence base for working with treatment resistant, complex and ambivalent clients. An equally compelling evidence base around mentoring approaches to improving lifestyle, employment and health outcomes for young people. The Amp shop will combine these approaches with creative production and interest-based projects in an environment that literally activates young people, inviting them to pick up a tool, a brush or and instrument.

Engage: finding the skills and interests that make up who each of us are.

Understand: taking the time to really appreciate each aspect a young persons unique point of view and experience

Activate: doing with, not for; making something that matters.

…that’s the basic approach.

The Amp Shop is also a provider of National Disability Insurance Scheme supports.

AMP SHOP NDIS POLICY OCT2017

Having completed my Masters of Criminology at Sydney Law School in 2013, I wanted to branch out of the public service, particularly in preparation for the changes happening ahead of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Looking forward to my 20th year working with marginalised youth in 2015, it seemed like the right move at the right time. I’ve had these ideas for so long – now it’s time to put it into action. Game on.

Vision statement:
To live in a community where no young person is excluded from relationships with skilled, genuinely supportive adults, meaningful work and ongoing good health.

Mission:
To engage, understand and activate
the strengths and skills of young people through mentoring.
