Stephen P. Holmes: Repa+one Sessions
I'm not sure how exactly I became aware of www.repatone.com but my lovely wife bought me some time there for my birthday.
So I do together with the Trappist Afterland boys, 'practiced' a few of my songs and went in to John and Tilly's beautifully hospital place for a session. The process is fascinating - recording through largely vintage gear straight to a sputnik looking 'lathe' with a turntable and hoover connected to it. More than that the actual mechanism of being 'produced' by someone for the first time in many years was exhilarating. Having contributed to the production of Afterland's most resent 'Se(vii)en' LP we already had a working shorthand, but the whole experienced confirmed for me the value of limiting your creative choices to sharpen your focus.
The result is available on the My Music page below - which is to say that the work we recorded plus things I did here in my studio inspired by those session are collected onto one release. All originals, except a cheeky Guthrie does fellow Okie songs cover of the Flaming Lips' 'Waiting For Superman'.
It's pretty raw - but I felt really refocused by making it, so I hope you like it.
